Does your MacBook reboot when closed?
June 18, 2007
One of the things I love about my MacBook is how quickly it goes to sleep and wakes up. So, just like any other day, I closed the lid of the notebook and slid it into its case before I headed out the door. As I slung the bag over my shoulder, I heard that distinctive sound — the sound your Mac makes when it boots up. What the deuce?
I pulled it out and sure enough, it was waiting at the login prompt. It had rebooted spontaneously. I thought this was user error, so I put it back to sleep, stuffed it in the bag, and ran on my way.
A couple of weeks later, a colleague of mine asked if I had seen it happen before. "I just put it in the bag, and it rebooted", he told me. Hmm, maybe this is a common problem, I thought to myself.
The last straw came last night, while at my father's house and about to enjoy a nice steak. I closed my MacBook after responding to a quick email, and headed out to light off the grill. "Baaaaah" my laptop said.
That prompted me to write this blog posting — I want to know, who else out there has seen this issue? There must be something to it, as I've seen it personally 3 times, and my coworker also expressed the same phenomenon.
